IncontiLase™ treatment

IncontiLase™ is a patent-pending, non-invasive Er:YAG laser therapy for the treatment of mild and moderate stress urinary incontinence, based on non-ablative photothermal stimulation of collagen neogenesis, shrinking and tightening of vaginal mucosa tissue and collagen-rich endopelvic fascia, and subsequently greater support to the bladder.

incontilase

The indications for IncontiLase™ therapy are mild and moderate stress- and mixed-urinary incontinence (SUI). Preliminary clinical studies show that it is an efficient, easy-to-perform and safe procedure.

How does IncontiLase™ works?

Fotona’s 2940 nm Er:YAG non-ablative laser with proprietary “Smooth-mode” technology thermally affects the vaginal tissue, stimulating collagen remodeling and the synthesis of new collagen fibers in the region of the vestibule and urethral orifice, as well as in the area along the anterior vaginal wall.

The final result of collagen neogenesis is the shrinking and tightening of vaginal mucosa tissue and collagen-rich endopelvic fascia and subsequently greater support to the bladder and the return of normal continence function.

Unique advantages of IntcontiLase™

A major advantage of IncontiLase™ is that the procedure is incisionless and virtually painless, with no ablation, cutting, bleeding, or sutures. Recovery is extremely quick without need for the use of analgesics or antibiotics.

Usually two sessions are recommended to alleviate mild or even moderate stress urinary incontinence. No special pre-op preparation or post-op precautions are necessary. Patients can immediately return to their normal everyday activities. Hip-bath is not recommended for 1-2 days and sexual life is not recommended either for 7 days after the treatments.

Studies confirm that IncontiLase™ is an effective, safe and comfortable treatment option for symptom relief in patients with mild and moderate SUI.

The IncontiLase™ Intra

IncontiLase™ Intra is the latest and unique treatment method of the Fotona company. This treatment is used in the cases of those patients with whom the cause of urinary incontinence are the relaxed urethra and the internal urethral sphincter that has lost its tonicity. In this case, the urinary incontinence has a leaking character; a few millilitres of urine are passed when the patient lifts things, sits up or strains himself/herself. Its cause is mainly the weakness of the connective tissues due to old age and the lack of the oestrogen hormone. The so-called hyperactive bladder syndrome is frequently associated with this condition. In this case, the patient wakes up several times a night to urinate, as well as the urinary urge occurs suddenly and irrepressibly.

During the IncontiLase™ Intra treatment, a specifically formed Er:YAG laser head having a thickness of about 2 mm is inserted into the urethra. Thus the remodelling of the fibres of the connective tissue and the regaining of their flexibility can be achieved through these treatments. Afterwards, the increased urethral pressure can resist the pressure exerted by the urine coming from the bladder. This is a condition to the controllability of urination. The course of the treatment can be seen in the below animated video.

The vaginal pressure conditions are measured beforehand with the so-called perineometer under normal circumstances, then during the intentional contraction of the vaginal musculature. (Peritron) The pre- and post-treatment status can be objectively measured with this device. One treatment session takes 15-20 minutes.

It is incisionless, painless, with no bleeding or sutures. An intermission of 2-4 weeks is recommended between two treatments. It requires no special preparations or aftercare. After the treatment, the patient can immediately return to his/her normal daily activity. It is not recommended to take a sitting bath for 1 or 2 days after the treatment, as well as to avoid sex life for 7 days. The animated presentation of the procedure can be seen in the following video.

The IncontiLase™ Extra

Mixed incontinence exists when stress incontinence is also accompanied by urge incontinence. Its treatment is done by the joint use of the IncontiLase™ and IncontiLase™ Intra treatments. In this way, besides the increase in the urethral internal pressure the tightness of the fundus of bladder jointly exert an effect to cease the cause of incontinence.

Exceptional clinical results

Scientific results from clinical studies show excellent improvement for mild and moderate stress urinary incontinence.

  • Almost 70% of patients are dry after 120 days.
  • 120 days after IncontiLase™ treatment 94% of patients reported improvement and 68% of all patients claimed to be free of SUI symptoms.
  • Improvement of SUI in all measured parameters.
  • No adverse events noted in any of the studies.
